Exhibiting Artists:

LANA LICATA

Lana Licata was born in Placentia and is working and living in Southern California again after graduating from California College of the Arts. Her practice focuses on the making of sculptural paintings and installations. Working in an aesthetic of scrappy classy, she uses that an inspiration to depict a feminine and chaotic collision of abstrct, and organic elements through explosive color and tactile, decorative material.

LINDSEY LYONS

Lindsey Lyons is a San Francisco-based artist whose work is influenced by swamps, saltwater, detritus, and shifting terrain. Her resulting paintings, installations, and other forms give rise to the once fragmented and unseen. Lyons received her MFA from California College of the Arts and her BA from Mount Holyoke College, and she has exhibited at spaces including Southern Exposure and the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.

PAULA MORALES
Paula Morales (1983) investigates the space between the analogue and digital worlds. As a visual artist she is constantly questioning images and their origins. Her work is charged with nostalgic elements as well as modern cliches while exploring space as a subject. She currently finds herself exploring "thingness" and things as an aesthetic expansion of spaces and people through installation pieces. Her works range from editorial portraiture, digital media, video , installation and virtual performance.

BUNNIE REISS
Bunnie 'Bonnie' Reiss creates to bring together. Materials, community, cultures, experiences, the past and the present, are all part of her visual catalog. She wishes to map out our strange lives, build our own kind of history, and weave us together as one. She is a natural storyteller, time-traveler and lover of all that is us, and she lives in a world filled with magic and imagination.
Considered an urban folk artist, Bunnie tells the stories of the things she sees, the things that seem important, and the things she finds in her travels and community. She is fearless in her making and wishes to create spaces where people feel safe and can imagine themselves into whoever they would like to be.
Often traveling several months out of the year, Bunnie's brain is constantly filling with new ideas and skill sets. She works both solo and with other artists from around the world. When she returns home to Los Angeles, she spends her days unwinding what she has uncovered in both her art practice and the classes she teaches.

She works in a number of mediums including, but not limited to, small metals and jewelry, sewing and textiles, installation, and most recently, performance and video. Her works consistently focus on one’s concept of self, the maintenance of self, how one imposes the self onto others and places, and how environment shapes ideas of self. Her most recent work is a performance series of becoming Blue, and comprises Blue Part I: Blue’s Debut and Blue Part II: Conflict/Resolution, Harmony in Contrast.

inter-

THE THANK YOU HOUSE presents, “inter-.” A show comprised of artists currently living and working within Mono County, and Maria.

inter-
word-forming element used freely in English, "between, among, during," from Latin inter (prep., adv.) "among, between, betwixt, in the midst of" (also used extensively as a prefix), from PIE *enter "between, among" (cognates: Sanskrit antar, Old Persian antar "among, between," Greek entera (plural) "intestines," Old Irish eter, Old Welsh ithr "among, between," Gothic undar, Old English under "under"), a comparative of *en "in" (see in (adv.)).

A living prefix in English from 15c. and used with Germanic as well as Latinate words. Spelled entre- in French; most words borrowed into English in that form were re-spelled 16c. to conform with Latin except entertain, enterprise. In Latin, spelling shifted to intel- before -l-, hence intelligence, etc.
(according to the Onlne Etymology Dictionary)

"My paintings are attempts to articulate my experience with the world around me. I have come to regard painting as an act of discovery more than an act of pure creation... in many ways it resembles more of an archaeological dig than a lightning flash of inspiration, where the more you work the more you find. I take a lot of influence from art history and literature as well as the contemporary world around me. I suppose I am somewhat obsessed with turning these discoveries I make in my imagination into physical, visible forms. I don't feel I have many alternatives. I feel fortunate to have the means to do something about it."

Between Two Points

The Thank You House presents, "Between Two Points," a solo exhibition of Helga Hizer's recent work. The show examines human relation to time and space, portraying the lived experience within a car and the windshied as frame to land and consciousness. "Between Two Points," navigates human modern perception to distance and how a body is projected through this space both mentally and physically. The show questions this personal relationship and space between two points, emphasizing the manufactured realities of the car, the window frame, and the romance of nature.

The work lives in the form of video, sculpture and installation.
